Father Albert Van Der Most

Father Albert Van Der Most

09.02.1937 - 26.09.2020

Father Albert will be sadly missed by his family, friends and parishioners. He was the parish priest at St Catherine’s Church, Littlehampton for 23 years. He arrived at St Catherine’s in September 1988 where he rallied the parishioners to launch an extraordinary programme of fund raising to help renovate the Church in which he himself was fully involved. As a result of much hard work and some generous donations the Church was restored.
Father Albert’s love of sport, particularly football was well known. Being a Dutchman his great love was for his national team and whenever they were playing England he would emerge after Mass with a orange Holland shirt on!
He also had a passion to help the poor and disadvantaged, and was well known for his many acts of kindness, especially for poor communities overseas. He received a letter from CAFOD, the Catholic Overseas Aid Charity congratulating him and St Catherine’s parish for their generosity and continued support for them.
In his latter years St Joseph’s Convent cared for, and supported Father Albert during his time with them.
Father Albert’s extrovert personality made him a well known figure in Littlehampton , but he will also be remembered for his deep faith and spirituality.

Fondly remember Fr Albert as Parish Priest of St. Peter & St. John church Camberley North prior to being sent to Littlehampton by then bishop Cormac Murphy O'Connor before he became Cardinal. Fr. Albert had a passion for raising funds for the missions in Ghana, Africa & organised the bishop's "Renew" project in our Parish.

Rest in Peace F.Albert. Our family met you many years ago when you were a SMA missionary father in Ghana, West Africa. Being a family of daughters my parents adopted all 'the fathers' and you were welcomed into our home. Years passed and you visited us at our school in Lingfield, and later in London & Littlehampton. Always so caring, with such energy and a wonderful sense of humor. May you be granted eternal rest . Love & prayers always - Christine (Wintle) my sisters, Helen, Marina & Sonia, Bill & Ailsa, my devoted parents and our families xx.

Beste Ome Bertus,
Bedankt
neefje Edwin Berg
