As a husband to Philomena and father to Maria, Louise, Simon and Benedict, as well as grandfather to their children, we would like to remember a few anecdotes and words left by those who knew Alan Godfrey.
Alan had a great impact on those who met him in his family, personal and professional life. To his children, he passed on his love of sports and his relentless work ethic. Alan was a deep thinker, with an incredibly diverse range of interests in science, politics, languages and literature.
Alan was a reassuring presence for his extended family and friends. A pillar of family and community life, he sought to mediate and find common ground with others. In remembering him, many mention his smile and kindness.
In his professional life, which spanned over five decades, he is described as, “joyful and uplifting” and a “big heart”. There are warm tributes from colleagues and associates in the many countries in which he worked.
We have many examples of his selflessness. In summary, Alan Godfrey touched many lives in many different places and left them for the better. He did it with huge commitment and an even bigger smile.
