Derek Leslie Donald Marsh, MA (Cantab), MICE, CEng
15th June 1931- 15th July 2021

We wanted to let you know that Dad passed away, very peacefully and quickly, last Thursday 15th July after a long stay in a home, in Bognor Regis. As you can see, Dad was 90 last month! His sister Judith spoke to Dad by phone from Australia, on his 90th birthday. We are all very sad at his passing but so glad it was peaceful and he is no longer in any pain.

May he rest in peace.

Funeral

We will give thanks for Derek’s life during a short service at 11 am on Monday 9th August.  The service will be at Kingswood Chapel, Worthing Crematorium – about 5 miles North of Worthing, 1 mile North West of Findon village.  Access is from the Northbound A24 [between A280 and A283].  Kingswood Chapel is the larger of 2 chapels on site, with a large copper roof.  There are extensive grounds, waiting room and toilets for those arriving early.  This will be a celebration of his life, so we encourage those who attend to wear anything that is colourful and comfortable; rather than black ties.

The order of service will be published in advance on-line; with the service live-streamed to avoid unnecessary travel.  Even if you are not connected to the internet we hope those who wish to join us for the service, or watch it afterwards, will know someone who can help you join the service on-line.  If that is difficult please let us know in case we can send you a recording afterwards on a DVD.

For all who attend in person, please join us afterwards for some lunchtime refreshments from 12 noon onwards at the nearby Findon Manor Hotel, Findon High Street, Findon, West Sussex   BN14 0TA   [Tel 01903 872733]  Map link http://www.findonmanor.com/how-to-find-us/location-map.shtml and we will also have maps at the service.

** Please let Rob know rough numbers and dietary requirements by Fri 31 July so we can confirm our booking.

Charities

Dad volunteered for and supported many charities and churches over the years, including Scope, Remap, REDR, YMCA, SAYT and St Pauls Chichester.  He relished the challenge of making things possible for disabled people – by designing, building and fitting novel equipment for them in their house or garden after checking their individual needs.  He did this as part of a Remap volunteer group | Making things possible | Remap custom-makes equipment to help disabled people live more independent lives.  Rather than flowers, please make any donations to Remap on https://www.remap.org.uk or via the funeral directors or https://www.justgiving.com/remap/donate

Contacts

We don’t have access to Dad’s full address book, so if you did NOT receive these details by email directly from us, it would be very helpful to have an email or phone contact for you, or a relative, friend or carer, so we can send details of how you can see the order of service and join the funeral service on-line.

Please forward this to anyone else who knew Dad but may not be aware, or let us have their contact details.

Books of condolence

We have two on-line books of condolence that you are welcome to view and add messages to:
audio / video messages can also be left as well as photos and there are more links to maps / charities etc
> https://memorials.reynoldsfunerals.co.uk/memorial/derek-leslie-donald-marsh
charity donations can also be made including Gift Aid claims – details to be added soon.

We’d really appreciate any thoughts, reflections, memories or prayers you may wish to share publicly, including any photos of Dad; and on the first link you can upload any video recordings of Dad or record your own audio or video reflection.  If you struggle with on-line books of condolence, please ask someone to email your reflections to Rob on [email protected].  Both books will be updated with funeral arrangements and service log in details.

We’d like to thank you for your support and friendship for Derek over many years; and for your very kind messages to us.

Rob, Chris and Andy

Dear Derek
you will be sadly missed may you rest in peace now.

Kirsty

Grandpa was always so interested in other people, their work and achievements - always remembering small details about what you’d been doing.
My favourite memory of him is on holiday is Menorca. He’d participated in a day walking trip, involving a lot of stair climbing.
Once back at our hotel we met up and were all heading out for a swim. He stood at the top of the stairs and declared “oh no, no another set of stairs!”
We are so pleased Grandpa got to meet Edward - his first great-grandchild before his failing health made life difficult for him in his later years. Rest in peace.

This was a discussion between Derek and Edward, his first Great Grandson. The agenda included Brexit, Pub grub and smart-phones. Ann and Kirsty taking notes...
