A very sad loss but many happy memories. I recall Uncle, along with Aunty visiting me in London when I was young, and visiting them in Scotland and playing with their numerous board game collections. Uncle Ekanem came down to London to see me when I gave birth to my first child; the baby photos pictures he took of her are my very favourite ones. Later on, when the frequency of his visits to Calabar increased I accompanied him on one of them. Over a long weekend he introduced me to the delights of the town I would not have otherwise experienced. Thanks to the phenomenal loving care from Aunty Barbara, decreased mobility did not stop his international travel and on one visit to Nigeria they stayed with me and got to meet my young family. My memory of him will be of a softly spoken smiling man, who liked to laugh and tease, and always referred to my Dad as ‘Brother’. He was still the same when I last visited him, just before Covid struck, and we all enjoyed an ice cream and stroll along the beach. Rest in Perfect Peace Uncle.

My dear quietly spoken uncle Ekanem, whom am l going to say Idem fo to again, l can see you smiling at that. l will always remember your yearly visit to london to watch the Notting hill carnival, and the treat to a restaurant of my choice at each visit, your love for life and very good hearty meals is well known, and l am glad that myself, Remi and my son Kitan were able to see you within days of you passing on and also seeing you enjoy the Nigeria cuisine we gave. You smiled, joked with us using your facial expression, and looked so content. You had a great sense of humour, and loved cracking jokes, you will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, uncle. You truly were a wonderful soul, and I pray that God will reward you in heaven. I pray the Lord will also console and keep your lovely wife Aunty Barbara whom you loved so much and took great care of you over the years... rest well uncle dearest. Na sung sung

Of sweet memories of Uncle Ekanem . Though we have not seen each other in a long time and because death is so final, your passing still touched us so. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
