Group Captain David Alan Baron OBE

In 198o, I had the privilege to serve with, as he was then, Wing Commander Baron, Officer Commanding No 14 Squadron, I am greatly saddened to here, only lately, of his passing. He inspired me to do my best and rewarded loyalty and honesty, how rare.
He was a memorable and generous leader, persuasive, fair and caring for those under his command. In difficult and testing scenarios during that tour and also socially he was always at the helm and a true gentleman. I have never forgotten the inspirational example and steadfast support he offered me during that period of the Cold War.

Group Captain Baron was my boss at RAF Church Fenton when I was posted there as a junior Officer straight out of IoT. He was an incredible and inspiring man in many ways...firm yet fair. Just read of his passing and my sincere condolences to the family.

I will miss his emails, which had the clarity and economy of cockpit signals.

So sorry to read of David's departure. I worked with him over a number of years at the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum and always enjoyed the many aviation related debates we had and the warm sense of companionship they engendered. A fine man and a real loss to the world of aviation history
