I met Lewis but a few times, he never spoke of his wartime background, but I knew something was so very right about him. Charming, funny and his presence left me calm when speaking with him. As an ex soldier myself, he struck me as officer quality. His life is a legend, and I am humbled by knowing him.
You were a nan amongst men. I salute you. God has a special place for men like you.

I am richer for knowing you.

Lewis was my Uncle (my father Gordon’s elder brother). The photo shows Lewis, Gordon and Beatrice. As a child I always loved his visits to our house as he spent quality time with us as children. He often brought “Slam” with him - a game where you had to be the first one to trap a mouse (not a real one!). He had such a lovely sense of fun and was gentle, modest and caring. He got on very well with my parents - Gordon & Anne - and we often saw him. Our love to Iris and all of the family. We only heard the news on the day of the funeral. We are in Budapest where my wife, Emma. is having cancer treatment. It would be great to hear from any of the family. An inspiring man! Lots of happy memories. Chris ([email protected])

I am saddened to hear of the loss of Lewis. Lewis was my grandads (Gordon Curl) brother. He was a very kind man, very similar to my own grandad in some ways! I enjoyed hearing of the many childhood stories the four Curl siblings had when growing up too. I have just watched the funeral online and was fascinated and amazed by what an amazing life Lewis lived. Sending my love to Iris, John and close family. You remain in my prayers during this time.

Remembering dear Uncle Lewis, the last of the four siblings, all of whom achieved so much in their differing ways. We know that all his close family would have been very proud of him. Our love to Iris and John.
