Rose Anne Charlton

Rose Anne Charlton

01.12.1929 - 19.12.2020

Rose was born on 1st December 1929, to Edward and Mary and had 2 brothers. She was a shorthand typist and it was there she met her husband Ray at Dalston Hall in Carlisle.

They married in 1954 and had 2 boys Stuart and Ian. They moved from Reading to Bognor Regis 45 years ago.

Both Rose and Ray were Marriage Guidance Councillors and founder members of Save The Children, Bognor Regis Branch where Rose was known as the marmalade queen producing 150lb- 200lb each year for them. Rose also volunteered for the Samaritans.

Rose and Ray were a very welcoming and friendly couple with an open house all the time.
They have a granddaughter Sally who they adored.

Rest In Peace.

To our dear neighbour Rose

Happy memories of coffee mornings for ‘Save the Children’

Rose will be remembered for her kindness & always thinking of others. Such a lovely cheerful person, lucky to have Rose for so many years as a neighbour and friend.

With much love

Rose was such a wonderful grandparent to my daughter Sally and source of support to me when I was a new mother - always generous and gently guiding. And as a working parent, I was so grateful that Rose would have Sally for holiday weeks - how lucky to have a Grandma living by the sea, who surrounded her with love but also showed her an example of how to be engaged in a community for a purpose. Rose was always busy with something to raise funds for Save the Children, especially at marmalade time of year - when she'd give regular updates on the availability and price of Seville oranges. Rose always laid on a feast when we'd visit - there was always something tasty available from the seemingly bottomless freezer. Although it was sad to see her ongoing sorrow at losing Ray 15 years ago, it was also warming to witness what a deep and enduring love she had for him.
